TIGERZ - Objectives

The TIGERZ campaign will establish four to five (4-5) semi-permanent and five to seven (5-7) temporary/mobile sun photometer sites along the CALIPSO footprint. These measurements will be augmented with lidar data. Using these measurements, TIGERZ campaign has the following objectives:

  • Perform direct sun and sky radiance measurements with sun photometers to characterize aerosol optical and microphysical properties
  • Utilize ground-based lidar along the CALIPSO track to determine vertical structure of aerosols and clouds.
  • Perform urban Kanpur and surrounding rural area studies during non-CALIPSO overpass days to determine daily distribution of aerosols.
  • Produce AERONET/CALIPSO joint inversion products.
  • Validate MISR and MODIS aerosol products.
